He had hazel eyes, light brown hair and a fair complexion. He had two scars on his forehead and a scar on his left calf. He was a member of the Salvation Army.
According to the 1914 Toronto city directory he was listed as a labourer living on the west side of Macdonald Avenue, Humber Bay.
